Book Review: Windfall
by Karrde on Jan.03, 2006, under Books, Review
Windfall is the 4th novel in Rachel Caine’s Weather Warden Series. As fast paced and trendy as the other 3. A lot of times that would be a detriment, but quick fluff is good for the soul now and then. We pick up mostly where we left off, Joanne is out of the warden buisness after comming back to life, and is trying to play a low key life as a morning Weather Girl. But life can’t be that simpe for Joanne, both personally and on a world wide level. Her past in Las Vegas is stalking her, and the Djinn world is headed for Civil War.
This was definately a quick read, even for me. 342 pages in 4 days. The New Years break might have had something to do with it. But I probably found myself reading it more that I would usually read books. Probably a little bit of testament to that I wanted to read the book.
There are times when this series borders on steamy romance novel, and being somehting of a weather buff will definately help. You can see that she put her research into that area, because the weather explination usually make sense and are consistant.

Tower on the Rift Review

Tower on the Rift by Ian Irvine
Tower is the second in a four part series. But as the author states in a note at the end of book 4 (I stole a peek when I bought it the other day), this is one epic story that was chunked up for consumption. We pick up imeadiately where we left off in A Shadow on the Glass. And go on a whirlwind from there for the first fandfull of scenes. Which is good based on the sudden cliff you fell of at the end of Shadow.
There are several problems I’ve had with the writing style of the book. Too often subjects are not well defined. It’s funny that I should make that complaint since I’ve had several people who complain that I do the same to them. Also I have issues with how abrupt both of these books have ended. I think it’s the lack of denouement.
